We're trying to find x, so we must isolate it.

We can start by subtracting 8x from both sides.

13x - 8x + 7 = 8x - 8x + 27

Then, subtract 7 from both sides.

13x - 8x + 7 - 7 = 8x - 8x + 27 - 7

Simplify!

5x = 20

Divide both sides by 5.

5x ÷ 5 = 20 ÷ 5

Simplify.x = 4
