Answer:

The numbers that are next to the sentence tell you what sentence you are reading. Sometimes they have the numbers at the beginning of the paragraphs. They are just there to tell which one you are reading. Most of the time they put the numbers there when you are going to take a test/quiz, that has a question, that you can find the answer in a certain sentence.
